| [song of week] 20th Oct 08 |

strung out pop perfection This week the tune comes from Welsh Leeds based artist under the name MECHANICAL OWL. It seems leadman Mike Payne likes to keep himself busy when he is not mechanising widllife, playing/recording in the fantastic Crayon and recording records in three days with Mrs Dice Feet. Actually, the song of the week could have been any tune from anyone of Mikes various incarnations. I dig his voice and arrangements and his collaborations with Nic Burrows of Glaciers. Mikes sense of timing and harmony is pure pop bliss. I urge anyone to sniff and search through their community of bands. Here is how I would go about it: 1. www.myspace.com/mechanicalowl, listen and enjoy. Maybe work on a book or a painting whilst going through the list. Or read the reviews and agree. 2. Hit up www.myspace.com/crayoncrayon paying careful attention to the powerful chorus' (chorii?) therein. 3. Jump across to see Nic Burrows of Crayon do some work with http://www.myspace.com/eventhemouseandtheglaciers 4. Once fully knowledgeable play around with www.myspace.com/mrsdicefeet, a project of which I have a lot of time for (instruments, room, 72 hours, record). 5. Check out Nous Vous (www.nousvous.eu) an art collective featuring some of the various members of all these bands. 6. Repeat 1-5. 7. Then buy all their stuff to enjoy in your ears at various places other than your computer. If they can eat, they can record more truly great music. 8. Tell your friends. These bands will be ones you will want to show off to folk.
First though, have a listen. 'Snowdonia' by Mechanical Owl
